Christmas Turkey

25 December 2009

It was a quiet Christmas, but it was good to have the family together. Kok Liang roasted the turkey which was quite tasty.

Esheng with the help of Eewen and Han Xiang, made Rocky Road Niblets biscuit that he had learnt from the school.

Adding in crushed digestive biscuits to the melted dark chocolate that had been mixed with condensed milk and butter.

Birthday treat at Kargeen Restaurant

5 March 2010

Birthday treat at Kargeen Restaurant.  We were not sure if the restaurant was good but Esheng has tried Omani shuwa in Ibra and he liked it. So we decided to give it a go...!  As we walk in to our table, we were rather surprised with the nice Omani decorated restaurant.  The weather was really nice and cooling.  We sat in the open air section and really enjoyed looking at the stars above us.

Shuwa is a typically Omani delicacy which consists of lamb or goat roasted for up to two days in a special oven prepared in a pit dug in the ground.   The meat is marinated with red pepper, turmeric, coriander, cumin, cardamom, garlic and vinegar and then wrapped in sacks usually, banana or palm leaves.  These sacks are then thrown into the smoldering oven, which is covered with a lid and sealed so that no smoke escapes.  The meat is usually cooked for 24 hours, sometimes 48 hours to get better taste of the meat.

Vegetable Dish- served with yogurt and bread. Bread was yummy!

Dolphins Boat Trip

22 December 2009

Dolphin Trip from Marina Bandar

There are more than 20 species of dolphins either living in or passing through the seas off the coast of Oman.  It was indeed such an exciting and thrilling experience seeing so many beautiful wild dolphins out in the open sea. It was just such an unbelievable sight, seeing hundreds of them swimming around us and as if oblivious to all the boats that are stopped there.

We could see the dolphins jumping out of the water and doing the somersault every now and then.  Really amazing!!

Chess Tournament in Markaz Al Bahja

20 November 2009

Chess Tournament in Markaz Al Bahja

The first tournament Esheng played in Oman.  Eewen wanted to join her friends for Tom's birthday party, so she did not want to participate. Since this is her first party invitation in Oman, I thought it will be nice for her to join her friends and not deprive her of the party fun!!
First game kicked off for Under 12.... after a long wait.

Last game with the winner of the under 12
Oman has a very small chess community.   I guess we have to make do for now.  Esheng did well, he got second place. Won 3 out of 4 games, made a blunder on the lost game as the opponent was not a tough player.  He beat the winner who also had 3 points but the winner had more points after adding the overall games, hence he had to settle on the second place .
Dilip, the chess organiser gave away the vouchers
He was still happy, having won RO10 voucher as the prize reward.  His first prize money in chess tournaments worth RM85, not bad...!!

Esheng's 10th birthday

18 November 2009

Esheng's 10th birthday

It has indeed been a very happy day for Esheng.  Birthday wishes started from school during the school assembly from teachers and friends.  I bought Dunkin Doughnuts for him to share with his friends and teachers and he was really happy to see me during the school break with the delivery.

He felt honoured that his birthday falls on National Day, ie Sultan Qaboos birthday but the celebration for the National Day will only begin next week together with the Eid holidays.  We are going to Dubai next week, hence an extended birthday treat for him

After school, I took them for ice cream treats at Baskins Robbins.  Esheng had all the birthday wishes from uncles, aunties and cousins back in Spore and KL and he was very happy indeed!

It was cake time at home after dinner.

Beautiful moments of seeing his smile and happiness on his birthday
